Francisco Amaral: Effect of the crisis is «much worse than we thought»

“I've been receiving all the people, to get to know them and I've been realizing that this is much worse […]

“I've been welcoming everyone to meet them and I've been realizing that this is much worse than we thought. I think that the reality of difficulties in Castro Marim is similar to what is happening across the country», considered the newly elected mayor of Castro Marim, Francisco Amaral, without hiding some anguish over the «old woman's arch» situations that are presented to him daily.

The dean of the Algarve's mayors «and one of the few dinosaurs» who remains in charge of the Portuguese municipalities was very concerned about the results of the personal survey he has been carrying out.

«I have witnessed, every day, situations of the old woman's arch, from hunger, to degrading living conditions, including people who do not have the money to pay the rent, to buy glasses for their children or for an operation, as the lists of wait at the hospital of Faro it is years and years old», he illustrated.

"This leads me to believe that the situation in the country is very worrying and that many Chambers in this country, if not most or even all, in the budget for next year, will have to completely secondary the works, to allocate their revenues only to social action», he considered.

“The panorama is dark and I don't see an immediate solution. And what is fact is that the mayors deal with the daily problems of the citizens, to which they have to give a quick answer», considered Francisco Amaral.

The mayor elected by the PSD even says that there is a gap between the representatives of the population in Parliament and the reality of the country. «There is a “decalage” between what is happening there and the real country. Honorable Members have no idea what is going on in the country. mainly from the deputies of the Government parties, but also from the PS', who consider that they are more concerned with 'politics' than with solving the problems of the Portuguese.

Francisco Amaral will be the guest of next week's radio program «Impressions», organized jointly by Sul Informação and by Rádio Universitária do Algarve RUA FM (102.7 FM). The program will air on Wednesday at 19 pm.
