Robbery and violent crime have decreased in recent years in the Algarve and the trend continued in the first nine months of 2013. According to statistics sent to newsrooms by the PSP, the decrease exceeds 20 percent in robberies, theft from homes and violent crime , between January and September 2013, in relation to the same period of the previous year.

In the first nine months of this year, the trend was for a strong decrease, with total robberies decreasing by 21,1 percent, thefts with burglary falling by more than 25 percent (without burglary, down 21 per cent. percent), thefts decreasing 8,5 percent and Violent and Serious Crime decreasing 21,10 percent.

Regarding the comparison of complete calendar years, between 2011 and 2012 there was a decrease in crime in the main indicators, namely, robberies, thefts and violent crime, although in the latter case, it was residual.

House robberies decreased by 2011 percent from 2012 to 12,5, while robberies in general (robberies using violence or threats) only dropped by 1,62 percent. In numbers, it dropped from 16 to 14 robbed houses and from 495 to 487 robberies, in PSP records (in 2010 there were 534).

In thefts, in the same period, there was also a decrease. Thefts in homes with burglary were down 10,28 percent and thefts in general (robbery without violence or threats) were down by 8,19 percent.

In this case, it went down from 457 to 410 houses robbed with burglary. In 2012, a new indicator was introduced, that of homes stolen without burglary (156), although there is still no data to assess the year-on-year variation. In general thefts, it dropped from 2624 to 2409 (3051 in 2010).

The Violent and Serious Crime indicator suffered the least variation, with only one less occurrence in 2012 than in 2011 (576 to 575). The decrease was, therefore, only 0,17 percent.

Reported Crime has also been declining, with the decrease between 2011 and 2012 standing at 9,25 percent. In the first nine months of the year, there were 6,4 percent fewer complaints than in the same period of the previous year.
