"We managed to repay part of our debt, making this Chamber manageable." This was one of the victories of Adelino Soares' first term at the head of the Vila do Bispo municipality, which the president, who was reinstated last Saturday, wants to continue in the future.
In the inauguration speech, the socialist mayor added that "we achieved a lot, but the greatest work was our willingness to help solve people's problems", having, for example, resolved "situations that had dragged on for decades". as “the case of Bairro da Liberdade in Sagres, Bairro da Unidad in Burgau, Bairro Cerro do Moinho in Budens and Bairro Encosta do Sol in Salema”.
Another of the victories achieved, despite the difficulties, was the financing of “many of our works. A good example of this is the Budens School Centre, with close to one million euros in funding, which will start soon».
Adelino Soares also stressed that he is proud of «being the president of a territory that is recognized for its enormous potential», and he mentions five examples of this: the two programs that RTP carried out from Verão Total, in the municipality, one of them linked to Ponta's candidacy. from Sagres to the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal.
SIC Noticias, for its part, aired, on October 14th, a report alluding to the 4th edition of the Sagres Bird Watching Festival, which is already the largest event in this area at national level. “Despite initially being much criticized, this event has conquered the population of the county, who recognize the importance of nature tourism for our territory”.
Another victory was, according to Adelino Soares, the fact that RTP, SIC and TVI all spoke of the 2nd Perceve Festival, which «is already one of the most renowned gastronomic festivals in our country. Thank you to the Association of Seafood Collectors for the courage and determination in holding this event that reinforces the importance of gastronomic tourism for our business fabric».
At an international level, the mayor of Vila do Bispo stressed, his county has also been in the mouths of the world. Thus, the North American television channel “CBS News” aired, on the 13th of October, on the program “Sunday Morning” by the North American journalist Martha Tcheiner, a report which addressed the importance of Sagres in the Portuguese Discoveries and its impact in the History of Humanity.
For its part, the North American magazine Travel & Leisure elected Praia da Salema as «one of the best secret beaches on the planet, in a list of only 15 beaches, this being the only Portuguese beach to be included in that list. Which for us is a prestige, since it is the largest travel magazine in the United States of America, which is read monthly by about 5 million readers».
For his second term at the head of Vila do Bispo Chamber, Adelino Soares, who had begun by recalling “the biggest victory ever of the Socialist Party and the highest percentage ever achieved in local elections”, as well as “one of the lowest Abstention rates in the country”, he assured that he will not be “only the president of the 1616 citizens who voted for me”, but “of all the citizens of the county”.
Therefore, as promised, he guarantees that he will move forward with Participatory Budgets and Open Presidencies, "to be close to those who cannot travel" to the Town Hall.
Finally, the mayor assured: "I will not agree with interests that are not in favor of the common good", "I will take the necessary decisions for the future of the council without electoral concerns" and "I will try to improve daily to better serve my council", in order to "dignify the office of mayor".
Nuno Amado is the new president of the Municipal Assembly
The installation ceremony of the municipal bodies of Vila do Bispo for the 2013-2017 term took place last Saturday, October 19, at the Cultural Center of Vila do Bispo.
Thus, for the City Council, Adelino Soares, Rute Silva and Afonso Nascimento (for the PS lists), who make up the executive, and Gilberto Viegas and Nuno Rio (for the PPD/PSD lists) took office.
During the first session of the Municipal Assembly, they were also elected as president of the Municipal Assembly Nuno Amado (PS), as 1st secretary António Batista (PS), and as 2nd secretary of the board Rafaela Costa (PS).
