Pedro Cabeçadas, 64, resident in Faro, was prevented from voting today because his registration in the parish of Sé was discharged. What is the reason? It's just that Pedro Cabeçadas is presumed dead…

Having gone to the Parish Council of Sé, where he usually voted, the voter from Faro found that his name "was not on the electoral roll".

At the Junta, Pedro Cabeçadas was eventually informed that, as the National Elections Commission had sent him a letter, it was eventually returned “with the indication that I had died”. Therefore, his name was removed from the electoral roll.

This despite the fact that this Farense has not undergone any change in residence or marital status. "They summon the dead to go to vote and they don't let the living vote because they say they're dead," criticized Pedro Cabeçadas.

The Público newspaper revealed today that there is a discrepancy of almost 900 citizens between the voters registered in the registers (data from the CNE) and the population aged over 18 residing in Portugal (data from the INE). This discrepancy must have to do with deceased voters who continue to appear on the electoral roll, or with voters who have emigrated and left the country in the meantime.

However, in the case of Pedro Cabeçadas, it is a voter who is alive and living where he has always lived, but whose name was wrongly removed from the electoral roll.
