Tomás Metcalfe, from the Banco BIC/Carmim team from Tavira, took the podium yesterday at the 75th Tour of Portugal Liberty Seguros to receive the prize for combativeness.

The British cyclist from Tavira's team was on the run for 15 kilometers and was only reached by the peloton 18 kilometers from the finish, in this, which was the first online stage of the 75th Volta, which connected Bombarral to Aveiro, in a 203,3 kilometer stretch.

Also on the run for 100 kilometers was one of the new reinforcements from Angola, Walter da Silva.

The 27-year-old athlete stated that “despite being a stage without major difficulties, it turned out to be tough due to the strong wind that was felt”.

The cyclist, born in Benguela, managed to reach, together with another fugitive, Adrian Lopez (Rádio Popular) 13 minutes ahead of the peloton, and was satisfied with his performance: “I felt pretty good and calm on a route that though had no climbs, it was quite long”.

Bruno Sancho reached the 16th position, with the same time as the winner Alexander Serov (Rusvelo).

In the overall individual standings, Sancho is 30 seconds behind the yellow jersey, the German Christoph Pfingsten (Cycling Team de Rijke/Shanks).

Today, the squad has 187,9 kilometers from Oliveira de Azeméis to Viana do Castelo. This second round has a medium degree of difficulty, with a third category mountain prize installed at the finish.
