The Left Block will present candidacies to local authorities from 11 of the 16 municipalities in the Algarve. In all cases, there is a candidate list for the Municipal Assembly, but the candidacy for the presidency of the City Council was only carried out in nine of the councils in which the blockists are running (see all the heads of list below).
BE's candidatures are concentrated in the coastal councils, where they obtained a base of support and availability of personalities that allowed them to advance with proposals. Albufeira is the only one of the most populous municipalities in the region where the Block has not submitted lists to any of Organs municipal bodies, similarly to what happened in Alcoutim, Aljezur, Monchique and São Brás de Alportel.
In two cases, the BE also refrained from presenting candidates to the Chamber, for different reasons. In Loulé, the objective assumed by the local structure of the party was “not to divide votes” in the sense of “defeating the right”.
In the case of Vila do Bispo, the blockists will have opted not to advance in the Chamber in order to present a stronger list to the deliberative body of the municipalities.
