Praia das Belharucas, in Albufeira, already has an Integrated Communications System in place, which includes the installation of various equipment, including a mobile phone at the beach station, an identification mast and buoy, and mobile communications for the numbers considered to support the rescue.

This Wednesday, an amphibious chair was also handed over to the beach concessionaire, as part of the application for the “Accessible Beach – Beach for All” award, which recognizes the bathing areas that stand out in terms of good practices in the area of accessibility to people with limited mobility.

To be considered an accessible beach, the bathing area must guarantee the following situations: easy pedestrian access with organized parking and spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, ramps, walkways to the awning area, adapted toilet facilities and access to the first service aid.

Municipalities with beaches awarded at the beginning of the bathing season as “Accessible Beach, Beach for All” can apply for one of them for the “Accessible Beach” award. This year the choice fell on Belharucas beach, which allowed him to win an amphibious chair and the integrated communications system.

Mayor José Carlos Rolo, together with councilor José Sequeira and technicians from the municipality's Environment Division were present during the morning at the delivery of the amphibious chair to the concessionaire of Praia das Belharucas, Jorge Coelho, who was pleased to have this vehicle was obtained for that beach, which will allow users with reduced mobility better conditions of access to the beach and to the bathing area.

José Carlos Rolo stressed that “Albufeira is internationally recognized for the quality of its bathing areas, and the municipality makes a considerable effort and investment to improve the safety, environment and accessibility conditions in all the municipality's beaches”.

Councilor José Sequeira said that the equipment will be ceded during the current bathing season to the holder of the license for recreational support associated with the Blue Flag, who should make it available to concessionaires on neighboring beaches, whenever they express this need.

The “Accessible Beach, Beach for All” project emerged in 2004, following the European Year of People with Disabilities, with the aim of harmonizing various local initiatives to make Portuguese beaches accessible to people with disabilities, extending them to as many people as possible. of bathing areas.

Coordination is the responsibility of the National Institute for Rehabilitation and has the collaboration at the institutional level of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) and Turismo de Portugal (TP).

The regional and local delegations of the APA, the Socorros a Náufragos Institute, the Port Authority and the Municipal Councils also collaborate at regional and local level.
