The Ria Formosa gastronomic delicacies, made by those who dedicate their lives to the creation and harvesting of shellfish and shellfish, are once again the center of the new Ria Formosa Festival of the Ria Formosa Nursery and Shellfish Association – Vivmar, in Largo de São Francisco, in Faro.

The initiative starts on Friday, July 26th, lasts until August 4th and has free entry every day.

As has been the custom for many years, part of the Largo de São Francisco car park will be reserved and tables and taverns will be set up, operated by Vivmar partners and their families. These are responsible for making the snacks available, using very traditional recipes, many of them in their respective families for generations.

In addition to gastronomy, there will also be live music and exhibitions of Fishing Arts, always from 18 pm to 2 am, in a party “that celebrates the best regional cuisine, made with products from our Ria Formosa”.

The event, this year in its 20th edition, serves to celebrate and make known the good local food, but also to honor the late António Labóia, who as president of Vivmar was one of the main workers for the party to reach the dimension that today it has.

The municipality instituted, after his death, the “Prémio António Labóia”, aimed at students from the 1st cycle of basic education in the municipality.

«Thus, on the opening day of the Festa da Ria Formosa, the municipality presents, for the 6th consecutive year, the awards to the authors of the best works in text, photography and drawing about the Ria. The awards ceremony will take place at 20 pm at Largo de São Francisco and will be attended by young artists. The works in competition will be exhibited on a stand in the same venue as the event», announced the Chamber of Faro.
