This year, Olympic champion Carlos Lopes will sponsor the Melides-Tróia Atlantic Ultra Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, July 28, in that part of the Alentejo Coast.
Enrollments for this 9th edition have already broken the record for the 2012 edition: so far there are 460 athletes enrolled from Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, France, England, Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Brazil, Italy and Moldova, in a total of 40 teams.
The only race in Portugal and Europe, with 43 km in length and running on the beach, the Ultra Marathon Atlântica Melides-Tróia, is considered elite due to the demands it entails. Carlos Lopes, who sponsors, will accompany the race throughout the course.
In the Melides-Tróia Atlantic Ultra Marathon, which starts at 9:00 am at Melides beach, the athletes will pass by the sea on the beaches of Aberta Nova, Galé, Pinheiro da Cruz, Pego, Carvalhal, Comporta and Soltróia. The awards ceremony will take place at the Tróia Marina at 17:30 pm.
In addition to a strong sporting and competitive component, the Ultra Marathon Atlântica Melides – Tróia, promotes the beauty of the landscape and the tourist potential of the Atlantic Front of the Municipality of Grândola, the largest stretch of beach in the country and the third largest in the world.
At 16 pm, at the Casino de Tróia Show Center, it will be possible to watch the presentation of the film by Carlos Gomes and Fran Lopes Reyes “An Ultra Atlantic Marathon – One Coast Line, One Distance, A Test of Overcoming”.
Organized by the Municipality of Grândola, the Ultra Marathon Atlântica Melides-Tróia also has the presence of the record holders of the race and winners of the 2012 edition: Eusébio Rosa and Gema Borgas.
