The Barlavento Algarve is currently at an “extreme” risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, warns the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). In fact, the rest of the country is at “extreme” risk.

The IPMA recommends the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, t-shirt, parasol and sunscreen, also emphasizing that children should not be exposed to the sun.

Ultraviolet radiation can cause serious harm to health if the level exceeds safe limits, according to the IPMA.
