The City Council of Lagos invited historian Daniela Pereira to a lecture on the urban evolution of Lagos. The initiative takes place on the 13th, at 18 pm, in the auditorium of Paços do Concelho Séc. XXI.

“Since urban rehabilitation is the driving force behind the revival of the historic center of the so-called City of Discoveries, scientific knowledge of its urban development is not negligible”, stresses the municipality, in a press release.

Thus, «with the objective of giving back to the Lacobrigense community the knowledge of its urban history, correctly analyzed and interpreted, the City Council of Lagos invited Daniela Pereira to a lecture open to the general public».

Lagos was, until very recently, the only historic city in the Algarve that did not yet have a study of urban evolution, based on the crossing of historical documents and archaeological data.

But the master's thesis that historian Daniela Pereira presented in November 2012 to the University of Algarve changed this situation.

Based on old cartography and other documents kept in national and foreign archives, this researcher produced new knowledge, contributing to renew the urban understanding of the city and its evolution over time.

Daniela Sofia Nunes Pereira (b. 1981) has a degree in Cultural Heritage from the University of Algarve and a Master's in Art History from the same University.

Disciple, among others, of professors José Eduardo Horta Correia and António Rosa Mendes, she has developed studies in the scope of the History of Urbanism.

She is a researcher at the Center for the Study of Heritage and History of the Algarve (CEPHA) and is currently a collaborator at the University of Algarve Library.

This lecture will take place on the 13th of June, starting at 18 pm, in the auditorium of Paços do Concelho, 00st century. Admission to the lecture is free, although subject to the capacity of the auditorium (you can register by email: [email protected] or by tel. 282 771 723).
