The Ministry of Health sent 80 letters to users of the Algarve Health Centers to update the registration lists, 40 in Alentejo and 750 thousand in the area of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo. Across the country, 900 letters were sent.

In response to a question from the Left Block on sending letters to users to "clean up the lists of health centers", dated last February, the Government also replied that other forms of confirmation are accepted, as suggested by the BE, which not just phone or in person.

The Ministry of Health adds that "there are ARS that have prepared Information Circulars, defining, for the Health Center Groupings and/or Local Health Units in the region, the description of the process, the procedures to be adopted in case of return of letters, and the procedures to be adopted in case of user contact to avoid any failures”.

"Some even appointed in each ACES/ULS a process manager, whose function is to establish articulation between the health units and the ARS, in order to ensure the regularization and monitoring of reported situations", adds the response.

In order to enable the referral and treatment of situations reported by users who establish telephone contact with the ARS, there are professionals involved in this process (sometimes including professionals from the Citizen's Office), thus ensuring an adequate response to all situations" , says the Ministry of Health.

The MS recalls that «the updating of the lists of users in the Health Centers has as its main objective to have more Portuguese people benefiting from family doctors, adapting supply to demand».

In June 2011 there were one and a half million Portuguese people without an assigned family doctor.
