Albufeira Town Council organized several initiatives to celebrate World Children's Day, which is marked today, Saturday. But it will be the children who will offer something to the community, specifically the book “Os Pequenos Gigantes”, which will be presented today at the Municipal Library of Albufeira, at 16 pm.
In this presentation, «the stars will be the students of the 1st Cycle schools in Vale de Parra, Sesmarias, Avenida do Ténis, Guia, Olhos de Água, Vale Carro and Fontainhas». 315 students from these schools accepted the challenge of building a text based on the story “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde, within the scope of the «Reading Club AEIOU».
«Doing justice to the saying “who tells a tale adds a point to it”, different stories emerged», which were compiled in the book that will be presented this afternoon, revealed the municipality of Albufeira.
Following the presentation of the book, there will be a dramatization moment based on the adaptation of the short story «O Pinto Pintão» by António Torrado.
The «AEIOU Reading Club… The Reader is you!» is a project initiated by the Municipality of Albufeira, in January 2012, with the aim of encouraging and promoting reading habits in school-age children, developing their critical sense and training new readers.
The initiative, which is the responsibility of the School Library Support Service (SABE), consists of promoting informal meetings between the small readers of the various schools associated with the project and the Municipal Library.
The sharing of readings represents one of the main foundations of this initiative, in which the stories are presented and explored in a playful and educational way and the first contact with the book aims to appeal to the imagination and creativity of children.
This is just one of the activities that the Câmara de Albufeira promotes today, aimed at the youngest. Between 10 am and 13 pm, various workshops will be promoted under the Paginários Program in front of the Paços do Concelho. At 10 am, the book «O Sonho de Mariana» was handed over, with advice for the parents of babies born in Albufeira between May 2012 and May 2013, at Salão Nobre.
