Eurovisionsports Games bring 300 athletes from Europe to Albufeira

Around 300 athletes accompanied by elements of the Casa do Pessoal at RTP, responsible for organizing the 56th edition of the Eurovisionsports Games, were on Sunday in Albufeira at the event's Opening Ceremony.

The initiative, which was attended by the mayor and councilors of the Municipality of Albufeira, had a meeting scheduled in front of the Paços do Concelho building, from 17:00.

After the formal moment, the delegations of Television and Radio Stations from the 10 countries that make up the EBU – European Broadcasting Union, among which Portugal, Germany, Belgium, France, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Algeria, Austria and Switzerland left in parade towards the city center.

With flags unfurled to identify the teams of the countries they represent, the delegations only stopped at the Pau da Bandeira viewpoint to photograph the landscape and then at Praça dos Pescadores for a family photo.

At Galeria Samora Barros, the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira presented the participants with a display of regional wines, which was followed by the performance of Rancho Folclórico de Albufeira on the stage of Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco.

Within the scope of Eurovisionsports, several hundred people will participate, for eight days, in various sports competitions in the modalities of Athletics, Mountain Biking, Cycling, Basketball, Football, Golf, Tennis, Table Tennis, Petanque, Beach Volley and Chess.

Alongside sports, the event also includes a social component, which will allow delegations to visit the main tourist attractions in the municipality of Albufeira.

During the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the Mayor José Carlos Rolo welcomed the delegations, wishing them a great stay in Albufeira.

He said he was very proud that Casa do Pessoal at RTP chose the city for the organization of the 56th edition of Eurovisionsports.

"We are the capital of Portuguese Tourism, we like to welcome those who visit us, people from over 70 different nationalities, who come to us for the beauty of our beaches, the quality of tourist infrastructure and the excellence of our cuisine."

The mayor wished the teams good luck having said that "more than winning, it is important to have fair play, promote team spirit and create bonds of friendship between the participants".
