Several arrests and many fines resulted from a coordinated operation, involving several police forces in the Algarve, which took place last Saturday in two different places in the region, under monitoring by the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP).

This was "a large-scale inspection operation within the scope of the prevention of violent and serious crime" of the Mixed Criminal Prevention Team for the Algarve Region, revealed the GNR, in a statement.

The two operations on Saturday had different scopes and leaderships, with the GNR carrying out road inspection actions in Albufeira and the PSP inspecting night entertainment establishments in Portimão.

In the action it promoted on EN 125, the GNR inspected 382 drivers, detained "11 citizens for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and one for illegal possession of a weapon, and one citizen was also appointed as a defendant in a pending case".

“There were also 102 records of infractions against the road legislation and six foreign citizens were notified to voluntarily leave the national territory”, said the GNR.

In Portimão, the PSP inspected 12 commercial establishments and detained “three citizens, one for possession of a prohibited weapon and two for hanging a court order on them. A wooden stick and enough narcotic product were also seized for 48 individual doses of hashish. and 12 of cocaine».

"Three police offenses were also prepared and a foreign citizen was notified to voluntarily leave the national territory," added the same police force.

"The action, which had as its main objective to prevent all forms of serious crime likely to affect the physical, moral, patrimonial and the feeling of insecurity of the populations in the Algarve", explained the Command of Faro of the GNR, one of the forces that integrate the Mixed Team, like the PSP, Foreigners and Borders Service, Information and Security Service, PJ and Maritime Police.
