The future organic beekeepers have already started to be trained, in the first of three training courses promoted in Castro Marim, in a partnership between three associations, the Associação Terras do Baixo Guadiana, which promotes and finances the course, the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola, who ministers as an accredited entity, and also Odiana, responsible for the organization, logistics and headquarters of this training.

Despite having started the training last Friday, «given the great affluence of the beekeeping course, a second edition is still being considered», announced the promoters.

The initiation course to beekeeping in organic production mode will run until May 4th at the premises of Odiana, the Development Support Center, in Castro Marim. English, Spanish and female entrepreneurship courses will soon be launched.

«This is an initiative promoted by the Associação Terras do Baixo Guadiana, financed through the PACA [Skills Acquisition and Animation Plan], sub-program 3 – dynamization of rural areas under the PRODER programme. The ADPM (Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola) is responsible for providing the training, being the entity credited for this, and Odiana was responsible for the organization and logistics of the training, providing the headquarters space for the training", he revealed to Odiana, in a press release.

The Odiana association was founded by the municipalities of Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, in December 1998 and its name is an old name for the Guadiana river.
