Classical music and the built heritage of the Algarve will meet again over the next few months, in another edition of the «Música nos Monumentos» initiative. The Roman ruins of Milreu hosted on World Day of Monuments and Sites, celebrated last week, the presentation session of this cycle and also the first of the five concerts that make up this year's program.

A show will follow tomorrow at Chalé João Lúcio, the Ecoteca de Olhão, where a string trio composed of members of the Orquestra do Algarve will play compositions by J. Haydn, Franz Schubert and Beethoven. An initiative that can be seen from 18:30. All chamber ensembles that will play at different points in the region are composed of orchestra musicians.

This partnership, which has lasted for four years, between the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and Orquestra do Algarve seeks to «bring audiences together», combining two distinct dimensions of the cultural world: music and heritage. The aim is to “surprise” the public, bringing together two ways of living culture, which can be complementary.

“The monuments are part of our past, but also of the present and should be a part of the territory that is enjoyed and used, a place where we can also live”, illustrated in the presentation of the fourth edition of this event the regional director of Culture Dália Paulo.

After the concert in Milreu, starring a duo of violinists who performed works by Jacques Féréol Mazas, the initiative will feature a second show in April, in Olhão.

A concert that will take place on the 27th, at Chalé João Lúcio, «a fantastic place and a treat of our heritage», in Dália Paulo's vision. In addition to the heritage component, the now Ecoteca de Olhão benefits from “natural surroundings”, as it is located in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, next to Quinta de Marim which serves as its headquarters. With the addition of music, this is “an opportunity not to be missed”.

In May, on the 25th, the Alcaidaria do Castelo de Loulé will be the place chosen to host another concert of the cycle. In this case, there will be five members of the Orquestra do Algarve present, a string and clarinet quintet, who will interpret works by Mozart and Osvaldo Golijov.

In June, the cycle goes to Cacela Velha, municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, where a wind quintet will play pieces by Mozart, A. Reicha and Haydn in the old cemetery of this small town with a privileged view of the Ria Formosa. A village known not only for its natural beauty, but also for its heritage.

The 2013 «Music in Monuments» cycle ends at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guadalupe, in Vila do Bispo, with the performance of a wind quartet, with the repertoire including works by Mozart, Frederick Loewe and Jerry Bock.

The concerts in this cycle are all for people over 6 years old and tickets for each session cost five euros. A ticket for the four concerts (the presentation one was free) costs 16 euros and entitles its buyer to win a prize FNAC Card of 50 euros, which can be used to "purchase music or musical instruments at FNAC Algarve Shopping".
