The Professional Football Players Union (SJPF) presented yesterday, the 28th, a strike notice with Sporting Clube Olhanense, invoking the situation of arrears at the club since December.

If the administration of the club does not pay «at least one month's salary», Olhanense may miss the game with Benfica, in the 25th round of the I League of football.

The Union emphasizes that "the majority of players in the Olhanense squad have not received a salary since December 2012, a situation that has serious consequences at a personal, family and professional level."

"After many insistences from the interested parties, the situation did not deserve an adequate response from the club", adds the SJPF in a statement.

Therefore, «if the payment of one month's salary to the entire squad is not made by 15 pm on April 5, 2013, players will not attend the 25th round match to be played against Sport Lisbon and Benfica, respecting the deadlines provided for in article 534 of the Labor Code».

With this strike, the Union intends to "force the employer to pay at least one month's salary", "compel the Government and especially the competent entities, Portuguese Professional Football League and Portuguese Football Federation to intervene firmly with the club in order to honor its obligations”, and also “alert sports authorities to the need to definitively eradicate this phenomenon”.

Strike notice was also sent to all competent entities (Ministry of Economy and Employment, Secretary of State for Sport and Youth, Portuguese Football Federation and the Portuguese Professional Football League).

Olhanense, coached by Manuel Cajuda, occupies the 15th and penultimate place in the I League National Championship.
