The National Forest of the Coastal Dunes of Vila Real de Santo António receives another reforestation action, open to the entire community, on March 2 (Saturday), with a meeting point at the Parque de Merendas do Camaleão (VRSA), at 14:30 pm .

The journey continues the “Common Forest” project, which set as its goal the planting of 3000 new pine trees in the national forest, by the end of 2013, renewing this green space included in the National Network of Protected Areas and in the Natura 2000 Network.

On March 2, another 300 stone pines (Pinus pinea) will be planted in collaboration with the various partner entities, namely the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), which includes the Natural Reserve of Sapal de Castro Marim and VRSA.

The participation and collaboration of the Sapadores Florestais group, the VRSA Volunteer Bank, the young people from the “Escolhas Vivas” project, the VRSA Scouts group no. 60, among other local and regional associations that wish to participate .

Locally, the «Common Forest» project also involves the participation of students from the municipality, in the context of environmental actions developed in the school context, namely the «eco-schools», through which signs will be created with information on the planted species.

The National Forest of Vila Real de Santo António Coastal Dunes plays a protective role in this region, working as a means of fixing the dune system, controlling the sea winds and sheltering wild fauna. Currently, it plays an important social function, being frequently used for sports.
