The António Coelho Matos Referee Nucleus (NAFAM) publicly denounced aggressions against its associates Pedro Sancho and André Martins, in the games GDC Machados vs JC Aljezurense and GDC Machados vs Quarteira SC, counting for the senior championship of the Algarve Football Association.

Repudiating "vehemently" the attacks on the two referees, the association defended that "these acts must be exemplarily punished by the competent authorities and must reflect the concern to extinguish once and for all these sad examples of our sport."

A situation that is denounced at a time when the controversy surrounding the non-obligation of policing in sports venues is the order of the day.

Hence, the NAFAM considers that the situations that occurred become “particularly worrying at a time when important changes were made in terms of policing and security in sports venues”.

«The António Matos Football Referee Nucleus also addresses a word of support to the colleagues in question», adds the association.
