The poetry book «Universo open com Trancas à Porta», the new work of the author Manuel Madeira, will be presented on Saturday, at 16:30 pm, at the bookstore Leya no Pátio, in the Pátio de Letras space, in Faro. The presentation of this work edited by 4 Águas will be in charge of Varela Pires.  

Manuel Rodrigues Madeira was born in S. Bartolomeu de Messines, on August 21, 1924, but was taken to Faro, with his family, then to Olhão, where he lived until he was twenty-five years old, when he moved to Lisbon and stayed there for over forty years.

He was employed in Commerce and a civil servant, having been dismissed for political reasons. He was arrested and tortured by the PIDE several times. He worked as a technician in the agro-food industry in a multinational company for about thirty years. Currently lives in Olhão.

He collaborated with poetry and essays in clandestine publications for cultural dissemination, in the Algarve, in the XNUMXs and later in newspapers and literary magazines in the country. Many of his literary works were cut by Censorship.

 

Manuel Madeira's work

Figure in the “Anthology of Portuguese Poetry of the Post-War, 1945-1965”, by Ulisseia. He was co-founder of the literary magazine “Sol XXI”, and collaborated on it with poetry and essays. Recently he collaborated with poetry in the literature magazine “Sulscrito” nº3.

He gathered in a book part of his poetry, from 1949 to 2004, under the title “No Encalço do Real Unreachable”, by Minerva, 2005. In 2007 he published “A Little Infinite in Every Part”, by Atelier, in 2008, “ Poetic Letters between António Ramos Rosa and Manuel Madeira”, by Labirinto and in 2009, at the same publisher, the book “À Descoberta das Causas no Sortilegio dos Effects” and “Telluric Symbiosis of Fragments of Being, Reflections and Poetic Reflections” published by PopSul in 2010.
