The Youth Movement Association (MOJU) of Olhão saw approved in December, with distinction, an application to the fifth generation of Programa Escolhas to continue the project «Mais Sucesso» and make it even more comprehensive.

The «Mais Success – EG5» project will take place in the 2013-2015 period and is based on a consortium made up of 12 entities in the region. Its main objective, like its predecessor, is to make a decisive contribution to the educational and personal success of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the municipality of Olhão.

According to the president of MOJU Nuno António, «the idea is to reach young people from other areas of the city» in addition to those known as Bairro das Panteras, where the «More Success» project was established and where the association has a space with the same name, which it uses as a registered office and a place to carry out many activities.

“Mais Sucesso” officially expands the area of social intervention of the MOJU, with special focus on the “Neighborhood of the Housing Development Fund, known as dos Índios”.

Social inclusion continues to be the basis of the project, but this new phase foresees even more activities and initiatives than the previous one. Among them, emphasis on the focus on entrepreneurship, namely the promotion of the Social Economy.

The CRIA-Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer and the Regional Delegation of the Algarve of the IEFP, two of the members of the consortium, will have a decisive role here. “Let's turn more to entrepreneurship and training. We also wanted to find support here to try to pick up ideas that we have been raising and try to create added value for the local economy», revealed Nuno António.

Exemplary project entitles you to a bonus

The «Mais Sucesso» Project was not only approved, but was classified as one of the best of those presented in this phase of the Programa Escolhas. A recognition that will be worth an increase in the allocation of funds for the reinforcement of human resources.

The coordinator of «Mais Sucesso» will be Mónica Moreira, who had already worked on the «Bom Sucesso» project as a technician. She will be joined by other technicians and collaborators, including the monitor in the MOJU computer space, which will continue to function.

«More Success» has partners from many areas

A fact that the project evaluators must not have been indifferent to was the number and diversity of entities that the MOJU managed to gather around the project. In addition to CRIA and IEFP, as well as the Chamber of Olhão, already an official partner of «Bom Sucesso», entities from various sectors of society are members of the consortium.

Since this is a project very focused on school success and the fight against school dropout, the inclusion of Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes, Dr. Alberto Iria, João da Rosa and Prof. Olhão School Groups stands out. Paula Nogueira.

The list of the consortium is complete with the Committee for the Protection of Children and Youth of Olhão, the PSP of Olhão, the Community Care Unit of the ACES Central 1 Health Centers Group and the Regional Directorate of Algarve of the Portuguese Sports Institute and Youth.
