The Algarve, with 60,6% of preferences, was the region in Portugal where the 925 Portuguese-speaking travelers who responded to the HomeAway survey were most accommodated in 2012.

As it had done last year, HomeAway again sent a survey to travelers registered in HomeAway.pt during the year 2012 to ascertain certain information regarding your holiday choices.

Of the 925 Portuguese-speaking travelers who responded, in the last two years 83.9% of them stayed at least once in holiday homes.

The selection of accommodation was mainly in Portugal, and in the multiple answer question about which district they stayed in, Faro was selected 60.6% of the time, Leiria 9.2%, Lisbon 9.1%, Évora 6.5%, Madeira 6.3%, Setúbal 5.9%, Porto 5.2%, Beja 5.1%, Viana do Castelo 4.9%, Braga 4.6%, Azores 3.9%, Coimbra 3.7%, Portalegre 2.9%, Castelo Branco 2.6%, Viseu 2.5%, Vila Real 2.3%, Santarém 2.2%, Aveiro 2.1%, Bragança 1.9%, Guarda 1.8%, and other destinations outside Portugal were selected in 2.6%.

When asked to value from 0 to 10 their satisfaction regarding the process of renting a holiday home in various portals for this purpose, we obtained an average of 8 points.

During this process, 77.6% of travelers found the comments helpful or very helpful, and only 10.3% found the comments very helpful or not helpful in choosing their vacation home. 73.2% of these travelers prefer to keep in touch with homeowners by email, while only 28.8% prefer to keep in touch by phone.

91.4% of travelers think it is likely or very likely that they will recommend a stay in a holiday home to friends or family in the future.

To the question about who usually accompanies them on vacation, 67.9% answered that they travel with their family, 27.9% with their spouse, 11.1% with close relatives, 14% in groups of 5 or more people, 12.4% in small groups of up to 4 people, and only 2.8% travel alone.

For inspiration for their travels, in a multiple answer question, the Internet was selected by 71.5%, friends or word of mouth by 52.8%, travel magazines by 24.3%, travel agencies or brochures 19.3%, and television, radio or cinema at 9.2%.

In another multiple-answer question, we asked what kind of websites travelers usually book their holidays on, apartment and holiday home portals were selected 78.1% of the time, hotel portals 40.1%, travel portals 26.7%, home portals rural 26.4%, hotel website concerned 20.8% and flight portals 14.6%.

From the answers to the demographic questions, we found that 58.6% of travelers are women, and 41.4% men. 33.3% are between 41 to 50 years old, 32.5% are 31 to 40 years old and 20.2% are 51 to 65 years old. In response to the annual income of the household, 27.9% chose not to respond, 27.5% responded from 15 to 25 thousand euros per year, 15.1% from 25 to 35 thousand euros per year, 8.1% from 35 to 45 thousand euros per year and 7.3% more than 45 thousand euros per year.
