Four fishermen from the fishing vessel “Herança do Mar”, about to sink, four kilometers southeast of Monte Gordo they were saved this morning by a semi-rigid vessel belonging to the Maritime Police (PM) from Vila Real de Santo António.

The alert was received via VHF by the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon) at 03:37 am today, the 3rd, with the crew issuing the distress call, informing that the vessel had been collided by another fishing vessel and was embarking water at the bow, at risk of sinking.

The search and rescue action was immediately launched, with the MRCC Lisboa assuming the coordination of operations and engaging a semi-rigid from the Maritime Police (PM) of Vila Real de Santo António.

The fishermen were rescued by police officers at 04:12 am, in a stable situation, without requiring medical assistance. The vessel “Herança do Mar” ended up sinking after the rescue.
