The best karting drivers were throughout this week at the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve (KIA), at the Algarve Motor Park, in Portimão, to participate in the Rotax Max Challenge World Grand Finals. The event ended yesterday, Saturday, with the pre-finals and finals.

None of the Portuguese present in the competition managed to win the respective categories, but they achieved good performances and were, in many cases, close to achieving the victory.

Highlight for Santinho Mendes who in the Micro Max category, for riders from 8 to 10 years old, managed to climb the podium with an honorable third place.

In the DD2 Masters categories for riders aged 15 and over, Gonçalo Gaivão was at the door of the podium with fourth place. In Seniors, the best Portuguese was Francisco Mora with eighth place. Bruno Borlido in the Junior class, for riders from 13 to 16 years old, and after the excellent route throughout the competition in the Algarve, he took 12th place. Henrique Batista was the best Portuguese driver in the DD2 category.

In the Nations Cup Portugal barely managed to get a place in the top three, taking fourth place overall in a total of 53 countries in competition. In all, there were around 300 pilots in the competition, who competed in six different categories. The overall results can be found on the competition website.
