The Portuguese who use credit cards for Christmas purchases expect to spend this year up to 251 euros, 9 euros less than in 2011, reveals a recent study by Observador Cetelem.

The same study indicates that the number of individuals who have a credit card in Portugal has increased. In 2011, only 18% of Portuguese consumers reported using this form of payment and in 2012 the percentage reached 24%.

This is followed by respondents between 35 and 44 years old with 47% stating that they have a credit card and 41% of respondents between 45 and 54 years old. Those who least mention the use of credit cards are: from 55 to 65 years old – 21%; from 18 to 24 years old – 25%.
