Companies, entrepreneurs and knowledge producers will spend three days looking for ways to put the results of research carried out in the region at the service of the economy.

The event «Inovar Algarve» starts this Wednesday, the 5th, and lasts until Friday, at the Faculty of Economics building, on the University of Algarve's (UAlg) Campus de Gambelas and wants to show what knowledge can be commercialized.

The complete program of the conference cycle, the first of the two moments of «Inovar Algarve» was launched this week and can be consulted online. In it, the concern with bringing together businessmen and researchers is very evident, with moments dedicated exclusively to bilateral meetings between representatives of these two areas.

The initiative of the Algarve university, through CRIA - UAlg's Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division, starts today at 14 pm.

The first lecture is scheduled for 14:30 pm, on a very entrepreneur-oriented day. And for new business ideas to emerge, a good part of the afternoon, between 15:45 and 17:30, will be dedicated to bilateral meetings between companies, entrepreneurs and researchers. The first day is dedicated to the theme "Valuing Knowledge".

On the second day of the event, the component of promoting relations between the business and academic world will once again be present, this time in thematic work sessions that will take place in parallel, two by two.

Entrepreneurs and scientists will talk about the themes «Sea: Coastal Management, Marine Technologies and Resources» and «Tourism: Modalities, Destinations, Products and Behaviors» (10:30 am to 12:30 pm) and about «Health, Food and Welfare» and « Arts and Heritage: Media, Arts and Technology» (between 15pm and 17pm).

During the second day of the event, dedicated to the theme «University of the Algarve as a Vehicle of Innovation», various presentations will also be made by specialists in different areas.

On December 7th, between 10 am and 17 pm, there will be interventions on the general theme “Repositioning of R&D Units”.

The general director of COTEC Portugal Daniel Bessa, the president of INESC Porto José Manuel Mendonça, John Edwards, of Platform S3 of the European Union and project leaders of various structures, including research centers linked to UAlg, are some of the speakers guests.

Also on the last day of «Inovar Algarve», a debate will be held on the theme «Rethinking and Repositioning R&D Units: Development of Products and Services» with the participation of Daniel Bessa (COTEC Portugal), Francisco Banha (GesBanha and Business Angels Club), Telmo Vilela (National Institute of Industrial Property), Pedro Cabrita Carneiro (Foundation for Science and Technology), José Manuel Mendonça (INESC-Porto) and Carlos Faro (BIOCANT).

«Innovate Algarve» continues in January

The cycle of conferences «Inovar Algarve» will be the first of two moments of this project. This cycle will be complemented with an Innovation Fair that CRIA will organize on January 31st and February 1st, 2013.

The general objective of these two complementary initiatives is to highlight the commercial potential of the knowledge produced in the Algarve and place it at the service of the regional and national economy.
