The collection in bags of the Food Bank Against Hunger (BACF) is again in commercial establishments in all municipalities of the Algarve this Sunday. From the largest stores to smaller businesses, there are already 140 stores in the region where food collection takes place, but there are other ways to contribute, for those who cannot go to these places.
This weekend's campaign is one of two moments of direct collection, involving teams of volunteers (there are now 38 across the country). But helping does not mean going to a commercial establishment on campaign days. It can even be done from any computer with an Internet connection.
Until December 9, in the same establishments that yesterday and today hosted BACF teams, vouchers can be purchased that symbolize goods that will later be delivered to the institution.
In the Internet campaign, which also lasts until next Sunday, you can choose the item you want to donate and even choose the region where you want your donation to go. If this option is not selected, the assets are divided by the 20 BACF that already exist in the country.
In the Algarve, Banco Alimentar already supports 75 institutions from all municipalities in the region and more than 20 thousand people.
The objective of those responsible for the local BACF is to be able, with the food they collect in this campaign, to extend their activities to the 12 Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) that are on the waiting list, which would allow more than 2 to 3 thousand to help with food. people in the Algarve.
At a time when the country is going through a deep crisis, which in the Algarve has been reaching truly alarming dimensions, largely due to the high rate of unemployment, the challenge that the BACF hurls at the Portuguese «Feed this Idea» has perhaps never made so much sense .
After all, in global terms, the BACF of Portugal distributes food to 2373 IPSS across the country, which in turn distribute it to more than 373 people.
