Filipa Braz da Silva will also be a candidate for student representative on the General Council of the University of algarve, after being elected about two weeks ago as the next president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg), heading a composite list by members of your team.

Elections for student representatives in the governing body of the Algarve academy, currently chaired by Fernando Ulrich, are scheduled for February 21st. In this election, six students will be chosen for the group of 35 people that make up the General Council, three from each of the UAlg subsystems (university and polytechnic).

Filipa Braz's lists include five students for each of the subsystems, including her eight vice-presidents (representing the different schools and faculties of UAlg).

The General Council is responsible for defining the strategic development, orientation and supervision of the institution, being also responsible for the election of the Rector.

In addition to the students, this body comprises 18 representatives of professors and a representative of non-teaching staff, also elected, as well as ten external personalities of recognized merit, co-opted by the other members of the council.

«For Filipa Braz da Silva, this candidacy is natural and goes against what has been done by the previous General Directions of the Academic Association. Before there was a General Council, the highest body of the academy was the Senate, where the Academic Association had seven seats by inherence, one per organic unit, and the General Directorate normally appointed its vice-presidents», refers to Filipa da Silva's candidacy , in a press release.

“We are counting on the support of all students. It is a pity that there are elections for the General Council so soon after there have been elections for the Academic Association, since there may be those who want a kind of revenge and run against the General Board that will take office on January 7th», considered the candidate, according to the same document.

“But we are not accommodated and we know that we have to assume our responsibilities, standing up for the students and going to fight, to every fight. Our motto was to be “always awake” and, as promised to our colleagues, it is our duty to do everything we can to defend their rights», he concluded.

According to the press release, Filipa Braz da Silva called attention to the fact that the General Council, a body that will hold elections early next year for the second time in its history, is the "most important structure of the UAlg", which she considers "fundamental". the involvement of your team in AAUAlg.

The restructuring of the higher education network, the university's strategy in the medium and long term and the university's budgets are just some of the many issues being discussed in the General Council. The future of the University is not clear and we live in very difficult times, in addition to which we promised students that we would put pedagogy and the resolution of their problems above everything else», framed Filipa Braz da Silva.

Regarding the election of the next rector, which will be the responsibility of whoever is elected in the upcoming electoral acts, Filipa da Silva defended the students' representatives must be «exempt and impartial and that they decide their vote based on the different alternatives that arise. at the time taking into account what is best for the University and for the students».
