The winners of the «Algarve, Heritage Secrets» competition have already been selected. Carlos Araújo, author of a black and white photograph of Monchique, took first place in the initiative aimed at recognizing the most original images of streets and monuments in the Algarve. Aníbal Duarte, Maria Sansone and Sónia Costa complete the podium of the challenge launched in July by Turismo do Algarve and the Regional Directorate of Culture.

The objective was simple: to encourage photography lovers to portray the Algarve's cultural heritage in a pastime where the most important thing was to awaken to the region's history. 18 people competed, in a total of 58 images that were submitted to the vote of a jury and Internet users through the VisitAlgarve page on Facebook.

Carlos Araújo took first place in the competition and the best prize, a weekend for two people at Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort & Hotel Spa, in Albufeira. The remaining places were filled by three equally creative photographs by Silves, Faro and Albufeira.

Aníbal Duarte won second place, a dinner for two at the «A Ver Tavira» restaurant and free entries to the Sagres Fortress and the Roman Ruins of Milreu, while Maria Sansone (third place) and Sónia Costa (Facebook award) won products from merchandising of the promoters in the amount of 25 euros.

The competition was organized by Turismo do Algarve and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, and had the strategic partnership of the Real Hotels group and the «A Ver Tavira» restaurant.
