The short film «Momentos», by Nuno Rocha, was the big winner of the Algarve Short Film Festival (CAL), whose awards ceremony took place last Saturday at the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão. “Conto do Vento”, by Cláudio Jordão, was considered the best Algarve film in the competition, and “Mar Negro”, by Francisco Sousa, was chosen by the public.

Cinema, in this case short films, took more than two hundred lovers of this artistic genre to the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão last Saturday. Among those present was the vice-president of the Municipality of Olhão António Pina, who handed the prizes to the winners and praised the quality of most of the works in the competition.

António Pina thanked all the participants (30) and highlighted the policy that has been followed by the Municipality and the Youth House of Olhão in the policy of supporting artistic creation, namely in the training courses in painting, artistic photography, writing and cinematography ( short films). “With little funding, we have managed to maintain some of the events that dignify the work of the youth of Olhão”, said the mayor.

«Moments», which has already won the Audience Award at the Opuzen Film Festival, in Croatia, was filmed in Porto, has 7 minutes of duration and was made for the advertising campaign “Life is Good”, by LG.

The story tells of a homeless man who finds, in the place he calls home, memories of a time he lived. Fragments of pure happiness and moments of sublime sharing appear as hints of hope for a gift that will never be the same again.

With this Algarve Short Film Festival, which is expected to celebrate its third edition next year, Olhão stands out in an area of great cultural importance and which has had little expression in the region in recent years. But CAL, organized by the Municipality of Olhão through the Youth House and the Municipal Auditorium, wants more: for this festival to assert itself nationally and even internationally.
