The Municipality of Alcoutim recently acquired a piece of land next to the Pego Fundo river beach, in Alcoutim, with the main objective of expanding the bathing space.

The land, with an area of ​​eight hectares, should also give rise to a housing subdivision, a campsite, a wooden pedestrian bridge over the Ribeira de Cadavais and a maintenance circuit. The project is already in the design phase.

"From year to year, we see that the number of bathers on our beach increases and we do not want to fail to respond to this public recognition", guarantees the mayor of Alcoutim, Francisco Amaral, adding that many of the visitors are from neighboring Spain .

"With the purchase of this land, parallel to the beach, we will be able to receive a greater number of visitors and guarantee the quality of the site, in addition to the subsequent advantages for the local economy", declares the mayor, also referring to the campsite project , which “will solve a gap that has been felt for a long time, especially at the time of the Alcoutim Festival and during the bathing season”.

The river beach of Pego Fundo is located on the Cadavais stream, close to the mouth of the Guadiana river, and is equipped with a wide range of infrastructure and services – beach support, with bar, restrooms, showers, car parking and accesses. adapted for people with reduced mobility, picnic park, geriatric park, volleyball court and an area for recreational and sporting activities.

This beach has been awarded the Blue Flag and the Accessible Beach Flag.
