The concessionary consortium for the requalification of the EN125 has a deadline until «the beginning of the year» to deliver «a Work and Financing Plan» for the completion of the works, he revealed to the Sul Informação the company president at Estradas de Portugal (EP).

António Ramalho, who spoke on the side of the inauguration of the repaving of the ER 124/267 road, in Aljezur, recalled that the works stopped (in March of this year) «due to lack of funding from the consortium Rotas do Algarve Litoral and that an agreement was subsequently negotiated between EP and the consortium, which provides for «removal of some variants», thus reducing the total investment required.

The EP president did not want to say whether or not he knew whether the Rotas do Algarve Litoral consortium had managed to overcome its financing difficulties, nor what was the foreseeable date for the resumption of redevelopment work on the most important national road in the Algarve region.

António Ramalho guaranteed that «the EN125 and its variants are considered by us as very important» and announced that, in 2013, there will be a meeting in the Algarve of the «Decentralized Board of Directors of Estradas de Portugal», during which the works on that road and “all issues of proximity” will be in evidence.

After stop of requalification works at the end of March This year, Estradas de Portugal (EP) signed, in October, with Rotas do Algarve Litoral, sub-concessionaire of Algarve Litoral, a “memorandum of understanding” which presents a reduction of 155 million euros in investment compared to the initial contract.

This "memorandum" thus put aside the work on the sections relating to the Odiáxere, Olhão, Luz de Tavira variants, and the EN 2 variant between Faro and São Brás de Alportel.

However, for the works to be effectively resumed, the sub-concession consortium for the works has to guarantee financing, which, so far, has proved difficult, mainly due to the difficulties of some of the companies that are part of the consortium.
