The Cathedral of Silves, with part of the roof destroyed, damage to the electrical circuit of the bells and an old broken stained-glass window, was one of the buildings affected by the tornado that hit that location in the Algarve on Friday.

In statements published today by the electronic edition of the newspaper Sunday sheet, Father Carlos de Aquino says that the gale lasted only a few “moments” but brought to the region “atrocious destruction”, which left 13 people injured, three of them seriously, and another 12 homeless.

According to the parish priest of Silves, “the force of the wind” dragged “several pieces of wreckage into the Cathedral, including “large iron doors of a work in progress”, next to the monument.

The natural phenomenon left its mark on more than a hundred houses, including the parish house, which was left with part of a ruined wall.
