The Exhibition of Nativity Scenes by Maria Cavaco Silva, a joint initiative of the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic and Loulé City Council, will be open to the public at the Convento de Santo António, in Loulé, from 1 December to 5 January.

The proceeds from the Exhibition will revert to Associação Existir, a private social solidarity institution of which Maria Cavaco Silva is godmother.

The First Lady's Nativity Scene collection is born from an old passion, built over the years, and which is the result of an informed and affective collection.

His personal interest in the topic, his travels and representational functions allowed him to gather pieces from different sources, national and international, from countries such as Timor, Israel, France or African and Eastern European countries, to the traditional centers of production of Portuguese nativity scenes, such as Barcelos and Estremoz.

This Exhibition brings together a significant part of the cribs in this collection: more than a hundred pieces made from materials as different as clay, wood, tin, tile and cork that allow you to discover an interesting variety of iconographic representations alluding to the nativity.

This Exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm. For school visits, the hours are from Tuesday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:30 pm to 16:30 pm. Registration: [email protected] or 289 400 611.
