The Government provides two million euros to support families affected by the tornado that caused serious damage in Silves and Lagoa on November 16, announced Secretary of State Marco António Costa, after a meeting this Saturday at the Social Security District Center in Faro.

The Secretary of State for Solidarity and Social Security, who met in Faro with the mayors of Silves and Lagoa and also with the chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, he considered that the two million from the emergency fund will be sufficient, bearing in mind that insurance companies will assume a large part of the two million and 290 thousand euros of private losses indicated by the estimates.

"The intervention of insurance, which we know is very significant because there are many things covered, means that the two million euros that we have allocated exceptionally to cover all situations that are socially justified are more than enough to support families", said Marco António Coast.

To complete the regulation that will allow granting support, under this fund, to needy families affected by the tornado in both counties, technicians from the social services of the Chambers of Silves and Lagoa will meet tomorrow, Monday, with technicians from the District Social Security Center.

The two million euros, made available under the Social Relief Fund, are intended only for «affected people from the most needy sectors» of the municipalities of Lagoa and Silves, according to the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of last Thursday, the 22nd.
