Deputy Cecília Honório, elected by the Left Block in the Algarve circle, asked the Government for the “memorandum of understanding” and the amended contract between Estradas de Portugal and the Rotas do Algarve Litoral consortium, considering that a possible “unacceptable transfer ” of costs to the State.

Estradas de Portugal (EP) signed with Rotas do Algarve Litoral (sub-concessionaire of Algarve Litoral) a “memorandum of understanding” which presents a reduction of 155 million euros in relation to the initial contract.

This "memorandum" puts an end to the four-month stoppage in the EN 125 requalification works, but puts aside the work on the stretches related to the Odiáxere bypass, Olhão bypass, Luz de Tavira bypass, and EN 2 bypass between Faro and São Brás de Alportel.

This is an option that, underlines the bloquist deputy, "causes obvious damage to populations affected by unemployment and the puncture exercised by the introduction of tolls on Via Infante de Sagres, but raises other issues."

In view of the notice from EP, the renegotiation of the contract, in addition to forcing the abandonment of work on the aforementioned stretches, transfers to EP the maintenance and conservation of the EN 125, until now under the responsibility of the sub-concession.

"It is imperative to clarify whether the solution found was a negotiation or an unacceptable transfer of cost to the State, taking into account that the reduction of 155 million euros cancels the projects for the four variants and dramatically increases EP's costs with the conservation and maintenance of the EN 125'.

"The information so far available minimizes the contentment with savings", adds the deputy.
