The name of the next president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) is already known, it remains to be seen in what genre. The lists of Filipa da Silva and Filipe da Silva face each other on December 4 in the elections for the association's governing bodies and are already trying to convince their colleagues in the electoral campaign.
As might be expected, given the known financial difficulties of AAUAlg, both applications put special emphasis on solving the association's financial problems.
List A, by Filipa Braz da Silva, talks about continuing the work of the current direction, while List B, by Filipe da Silva, also assumes that they want to put the bills in days, after knowing the numbers well and involving students in the process. .
Despite this and many other proposals in the same direction, the candidates chose different paths, as far as the main priorities are concerned. List A points to pedagogy as the main flag and List B points to support for the most needy students, so that they do not have to leave university, as a top priority.
Social Action is not an exclusive priority on List B, as it is also seen as a priority by those responsible for the list led by Filipa Braz. Like Filipe da Silva's list, it also outlines the objective of helping Algarve university students with their pedagogical problems.
List A
The List A by Filipa Braz dos Santos chose pedagogy as the main banner, ensuring, on the other hand, that employability is one of its priority objectives.
It also assumed the commitment to continue the financial consolidation of AAUAlg and to demand “sufficient Social Action for all who need it”, according to the candidacy manifesto.
Betting on pedagogy was already an objective assumed by the current General Direction, to which Filipa Braz belongs and which supports her candidacy.
In the list A manifesto, this option is justified by the fact that, despite the fact that AAUAlg is one of the biggest SMEs in the Algarve, «it is, in fact, a student association, for students and they are its reason for existing».
The focus is also on solving the association's financial problems, since “without resources the Academic Association is enormously fragile”. The manifest is available on the list website.
List B
Filipe da Silva's List B focuses on the social area and on ensuring that no student is left out of higher education for lack of financial conditions. This will be the main one of several banners, from which those responsible for the candidacy highlight the resolution of the financial situation that AAUALG.
In the case of List B, this work «goes through knowing the real state of the Academic Association's structure, optimizing the existing resources and, above all, involving all the students of the University of Algarve in the discussion and decision of the measures to be taken».
The involvement of students in decision-making processes and greater proximity between elected officials and voters is another flag that Filipe da Silva's list assumes. Other areas of intervention of this team will be “employability, mobility, pedagogical problems, Academic Tradition and access to culture and sport”. List B proposals are available on the application website.
Magna Assembly with a single list, Fiscal Council with two
Rita Correia heads the only candidate list for the AAUAlg's Magna Assembly table. The current secretary general of the association heads the M list and will be the next president of this body.
As for the Fiscal Council, there are two proposals, the F list, led by André Cardoso, and the G list, whose first element is Raquel Pedro. In the pedagogical centers, only in the Faculty of Economics there will be two lists in dispute.
