The 22th International Congress “Medieval Ceramics in the Mediterranean” takes place between the 27nd and XNUMXth of October at Fissul, in Silves. The action is jointly organized by the Municipality of Silves (CMS), the Archaeological Field of Mértola (CAM), the Center for Archaeological Studies of the Universities of Coimbra and Porto and the International Association for the Study of Medieval Ceramics in the Mediterranean.

At this meeting, numerous national and international experts will address six main themes: Ceramics in their context, Ceramics and food, The Mediterranean and the Atlantic, Evolution and transfer of techniques, Ceramics and commerce and New Discoveries. In addition, around a hundred posters will be on display and will set the tone for some of the congress' presentations.

One of the sessions, centered on the theme of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, will be decentralized and will take place in Mértola, at the Cine-Teatro Marques Duque. The Congress culminates with a study visit to various locations in the Algarve, where the old Castle of Alcoutim and museum, the Islamic Center of Tavira, the Archaeological Museum of Loulé, the Municipal Museum of Faro and the city's Islamic Walls, the Municipal Museum of Archeology of Albufeira and the Municipal Museum of Portimão are the places of passage.

At the same time, there will be some activities and social program, which include the presentation of the Minutes of the IX CICM2, the holding of the workshop on 3D digitization and Digital Ceramic publication, the sale of archeology books, the exhibition “Os Signos do Quotidiano” and study visits and excursions.
