The tolls on Via do Infante will be discussed again and their suspension put to vote in the Assembly of the Republic. This Wednesday, the Commission of Users of Via do Infante delivered a petition with more than 13 signatures in Parliament and met with the Parliamentary Commission for Public Works to make a new appeal for the suspension of tolls and put the matter back on the agenda of the deputies.

The discussion of this matter "will still be scheduled", with CUVI "waiting with expectation" for the announcement of the date, he revealed to the Sul Informação the member of the João Vasconcelos movement.

In addition to the mandatory plenary discussion, since the petition has much more than the 4 signatures needed for this to happen, the commission received a guarantee «from the BE and PCP that they will present a draft resolution at the time of the discussion so that this can be voted on».

This is a new onslaught by the Algarve anti-toll movement, but it is not expected that the outcome will be different from the vote that has already taken place before. “The PS was not represented in the Commission, but the PSD deputy repeated the party's position at national level, evoking the user-payer principle,” revealed João Vasconcelos.

«We drew attention to the specificities of the Algarve, due to the tourist activity. We also remembered the dramatic accidents that happen in a catadupa [on the EN125]. Without exemptions, people will tend to flock to the EN125,” he added.

João Vasconcelos was once again concerned about the lack of safety conditions on this National Road, whose rehabilitation has now been substantially reduced. «It's a shame the four variants not be built», he considered.

Another issue that CUVI raised at the meeting was the danger of witnessing more radical acts. “Right now, the protest is being made by us, peacefully, in actions organized by us. But I fear that, when you least expect it, the situation could get out of hand, as people are desperate and there will be many more people rioting. I hope that doesn't happen and I also hope that the tolls are lifted,” he said.
