The administrative uncertainty zone between Loulé and Faro, aged 176, ceased to exist today, Friday, after the approval in the Assembly of the Republic of the proposal to divide the territory in the area surrounding São João da Venda, where the Algarve Stadium is located, which had already been approved by the Assemblies Municipalities of both counties.

The PSD/CDS majority in Parliament made the proposal presented by its parliamentary group viable, which deserves criticism from the PS.

The proposal was based on a technical report produced by a team led by historian and professor at the University of Algarve António Rosa Mendes who, according to PSD deputy Mendes Bota, had as «methodological parameters the physical lines of the territory in question, the updated cadastral plans, the existing infrastructure networks, functional aspects of the resident centers, the beacons of the official landmark of Ilha do Ancão, next to the fishermen's winch, and of the landmark of Caliços, north of the Algarve Stadium, the non-division of economic units such as Herdade do Ludo or Quinta do Faísca and this new reality of Estádio Algarve, owned by the two municipalities, with an imaginary line through the center of the Stadium».

The Social Democratic parliamentarian elected by the Algarve was chosen by the coalition in the Government to intervene. In his presentation, the Algarvian deputy defended that this is a "new balanced territorial delimitation, without anyone's gains or losses, but where everyone gains".

Mendes Bota argued that, if the proposal were approved, as it turned out, “a territorial uncertainty between the municipalities of Faro and Loulé, which lasted 176 years, adapting the management and planning instruments of the territory to the underlying reality and contributing to the resolution of multiple problems faced by the populations of that territorial space».

Deputy Miguel Freitas, on the other hand, who said he had voted against "as a matter of conscience", criticized what he considered too hasty in the decision and "lack of vision of the future". In his speech to Parliament this morning, he pointed out "two original sins" to the proposal.

“This proposal had no vision of the future. He looked to the past and even solves some bureaucratic processes of the present, but he has no vision of the future», he accused.

In a "personal note", for being "from Faro», Miguel Freitas defended that the proposal «killed the dream and the imagination of the Municipality of Faro». «The part that Faro loses from Biogal and Ludo, it was the part of the municipality where we deposited the city's imagination for a great quality project and a space that Loulé didn't need», he defended.

The other “sin” of the proposal, for the Socialist deputy, was “the anxiety to do, to move quickly”. «The proposal had a very interesting preparation time and a very refined technical work, but this is not a technical issue, of bureaucracy or geometry. It's a political issue,” he said. «There was a need to do all the work of consensualizing this process, firstly with the population and, secondly, with all local authorities, work that was not done», believes Miguel Freitas.

A view that is not shared by Mendes Bota, at least with regard to the population. In his speech, he said that "citizens were called for public discussion, with 12 replies from individuals, involving a total of 25 people." “Of these responses, one was applause and 11 were complaints. Of these 11 complaints, 6 were answered and 5 were rejected,” he added.
