Castro Marim City Council is going to improve housing for elderly people who benefit from home support, a measure that represents an investment of around 31 thousand euros from the Social Security and which will make it possible to recover 9 degraded houses. The municipality will bear the labor costs of the interventions to be carried out.

The intervention is carried out under the Housing Comfort Program for the Elderly (PCHI) which «has the purpose of combating poverty and exclusion, in particular, of elderly people, whose homes are degraded and need interventions, so that they remain in their natural environment for as long as possible, which translates into an improvement in the quality of life and the prevention of domestic accidents and situations of dependency», revealed the municipality of Castromarinense in a statement.

The more experienced citizens of this Algarve county also benefit from other aid measures, such as the Elderly Card, "which allows an increasing number of people from Castro to have benefits in obtaining medicines, following the protocol signed with the county's pharmacies, as well as transport for medical appointments and also the existing public transport network in the Municipality, “Castro Marim Mais Perto”».

The Chamber of Castro Marim also recalled other works in the social sector that it has already carried out, namely “the construction of the urbanizations of Cercado do Poço da Ordem in Castro Marim and of Laranjeiras in Altura, which ensured decent living conditions for dozens of families from Castro Marim ».
