About 11 people became scientists for one day in European Researchers' Night (NEI) of 2012, which took place at Ria Shopping, in Olhão and at the Ciência Viva Centers of Faro and Lakes.

The initiatives offered by the organization of the event had a good adhesion, with an increase in the number of visitors reaching 15%, compared to the 2011 edition.

Visitors had the opportunity to get to know the research work carried out in the Algarve up close and even participate in some experiments or use different machines and instruments that help scientists do their work. The so-called hands-on activities were the most popular, always attracting many onlookers.

The objectives of the initiative, which in the Algarve was organized by CRIA-Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve, were fully achieved, considered the organization. Although there is a focus on the school audience and the younger ones, this is an event that intends to involve the community in general, something that, considering the numbers, seems to have been achieved.

Of the 11 people who attended NEI's 2012 initiatives, 800 were students from primary and secondary schools. The remaining visitors went to the sites on their own initiative. In Olhão, in the middle of the afternoon of the day the initiative took place, families and adults could be seen alone or in groups visiting the different exhibitors.

«The 2012 European Researchers' Night, known for taking place simultaneously in several countries in Europe and Israel (300 cities), showed what science and sport are, how they relate and contribute to making our day-to-day easier », illustrated the CRIA.
