Today, Friday, is dedicated to researchers in various parts of the Algarve, in another edition of the European Researchers' Night. look, Faro and Lagos receive activities that mark this European-wide initiative, with the aim of disseminating science and showing the general public what researchers from the most diverse areas do in their daily lives.

In Olhão, the initiative has already started and the program includes many activities. There will also be many exhibitors to be present at the Ria Shopping, one of the hubs hosting the event in the region, similarly to the Live Science Centers of the Algarve (Faro) and from Lagos. His counterpart from Tavira moved to Olhão for a day, to join the base of this event coordinated by the University of Algarve.

Em Faro, there are activities specially designed for this day starting at 15 pm, when the debate will be launched on the theme “The Impact of the Researcher on Society”.

For this session were invited researchers António Sykes (CCMAR), who will speak about Aquaculture, Bruno Romeira (CEOT), with the presentation «The Chaos and Telecommunications», José Paulo Silva (CIQA), who will speak about «Nanocapsules and applications in life quotidiana” and José Manuel Bidarra (Open University), who will focus on the theme “Multimedia and Communication Tools”. This activity lasts up to 20 hours.

From 21 pm onwards, there will be the opportunity to observe the stars, weather permitting, of course. The activity begins with a lecture on the topic “From Biologist to Astronomer”, by Pedro Ré (FCUL).

This is followed by a session of «unarmed eye astronomical observation, with binoculars and a telescope». Here we will try to identify constellations in the sky, Jupiter and other objects such as Globular Clusters, Open Clusters, and Nebulae, in addition to observing the moon.

In Lagos, astronomical observation is also part of the Investigators' Night program. In the city of Barlavento Algarvio, the activity starts at 21:30 pm. Before that, there will be several activities associated with the theme of this year's Researchers' Night «Science and Sport».

Between 20 pm and 21 pm anyone can assess their physical condition, in an initiative that will include technicians from the municipal company «Lagos em Forma», who, in addition to evaluating various parameters of physical condition, will also give some nutrition advice to the participants.

At 20:30 pm, Fátima Baptista and Vera Lúcia Zymbal, researchers at the Faculty of Human Motricity of the Technical University of Lisbon, will explain how sport can contribute to healthy bones, in the «Sport and Bone Health» initiative.
