Portuguese MEPs Ana Gomes, Marisa Matias, António Correia de Campos, Maria da Graça Carvalho and Inês Zuber are some of the guest speakers for the 12th and 19th October sessions of the Regional Discussion Forum 2012, promoted this year in the Algarve by an organization of the Europe Direct Centre.

The Europe Direct Center of the Algarve, whose welcoming entity is the CCDR-Algarve, was invited by the European Parliament Office (GPE) in Portugal and by the European Commission Representation in Portugal to organize the Regional Discussion Forum 2012, which will take place this year in the Algarve, between the 1st of October and the 4th of November.

From the Forum program, under the motto “The values ​​of the European Union”, a session on “The 2020 Strategy” stands out, which will take place in the auditorium of CCDR-Algarve, in Faro, on October 12th, a meeting on “Competitiveness and entrepreneurship: how to converge in a sustainable way?”, followed by three workshops linked to the celebrations of 20 years of the single market, to be held on October 19th, at Hotel Eva, in Faro.

The Forum is also part of the “European Film Festival LUX”, which starts today and runs until October 28th, in partnership with the Film Clubs of Faro and from Tavira. This festival is an initiative of the European Parliament, which seeks to distinguish European film production.

Members of the European Parliament were invited to the sessions on October 12th and 19th, with the presence of Ana Gomes, Marisa Matias, António Correia de Campos, Maria da Graça Carvalho and Inês Zuber being confirmed.

The Cyprus ambassador to Portugal, Thalia Petrides, will be present at the event on October 19th.

Associated with the Regional Discussion Forum 2012 is also the exhibition “Europe Portugal: Half a century of History” which will be on display in Faro, Tavira and Portimão. It is a display of images, documents, quotes, etc. referring to the most important moments in the diplomatic history of contemporary Portugal and its integration process in the European Union.

Students from secondary schools in the Algarve, who visit the exhibition, will be able to participate in the competition "Euroschool" by answering a short questionnaire on the spot, on the theme of the European Union, which could lead at least one class from the Algarve to attend a Plenary Session of the Euroscola Program, in Strasbourg during 2013.
