The construction of the Galaxos weir has already been completed. The dam will facilitate the irrigation of small farms on the banks of the Odeleite stream, in addition to allowing the recharge of water tables, which often run out completely in the summer.
This work cost the municipality of Alcoutim 246.568,44 euros, an amount that also includes the construction of the Várzea weir, which is under construction and should be completed within a month. In the future, these dams will also create leisure areas, such as a picnic park.
The construction of this dam is the result of a CCDR Algarve program, “Ribeiras do Algarve”, to which the Municipality of Alcoutim applied, arranging funding for the work.
