The Left Block of Loulé condemned the "disproportionate decision" of a school in Quarteira and its grouping in "taking a child's normal meal", in reaction to news that have addressed this issue in various media. For the blocistas, this measure “denories a deep and worrying dehumanization that has to be reproved”.

BE stressed, in a statement, that the situation occurred in a Grouping of Schools that "has shown very positive concerns in solving complex situations of social need", but stressed, on the other hand, that "this disproportionate measure, contrary to what it has been largely its practice, it cannot be excused'.

“Even if the child's parents are able to pay, they are responsible for the non-payment, and the child cannot be the one to suffer the consequences for their actions. If they are found to be able to pay effectively, there will be other means of coercing them to fulfill their responsibilities. It is not acceptable that, for economic reasons or for any other reason, responsibilities are reversed, transferring them from the parents to a 5-year-old child», he defended.

BE/Loulé also demanded that the Loulé Council give “maximum priority to social support and, in this case, to the feeding of children”. “Here, delays that jeopardize the provision of meals are not acceptable. Or is it that the debt that the Group presents, evoking the risk of not being able to continue supporting those who effectively need it, is not just the parents' debt, many of them unable to pay it?», questioned the bloc.

“This is not the time for politically correct positions. There are principles and values that cannot be bought or sold. The stigmatization and reprisal of a child, such as that which happened in Quarteira, cannot be accepted in public schools and it is essential to draw all conclusions from this reprehensible act”, concluded the blockists.
