The Mamaratona 12, scheduled for October 14th, in Portimão, presents the I Algarve Half Marathon as a great novelty.
The two tests are organized by the Oncological Association of the Algarve with the support of the Portimão City Council, with the aim of alerting the population to the problem of cancer and raising funds to support the construction of a residence for patients undergoing treatment at the Radiotherapy Unit in Faro.
During the presentation of the event, which was attended by Isabel Guerreiro, councilor of the Portimão City Council, José Alberto Santos Pereira, president of the Algarve Oncological Association, Maria de Lurdes Pereira, coordinator of the Mamamarathon, and Rui Costa, regional technical director of the Algarve Athletics Association, the importance of volunteering on the part of all entities that collaborate with the organization of this initiative was highlighted.
PSP, Firefighters and Red Cross voluntarily participate and collaborate in the event's logistical issues, such as policing, security and vehicle support, among other entities that support and sponsor the event.
The Mamamarathon starts at 10:00 am and will take place along the Portimão Riverside Zone, starting and ending at Antiga Lota, on a route that varies between 5 and 8 kilometers and will include the participation of athletes such as António Silva and António Fortunato.
As for the XNUMXst Half Marathon, aimed at federated athletes, it is promoted in a partnership between the AOA and the Algarve Athletics Association, and values the solidary participation of national and foreign athletes who wish to join this cancer alert movement.
Entries must be made in www.aaalgarve.org, where the regulation can also be consulted. Registration costs 7,5 euros, of which 5 euros will revert to the AOA.
As usual, participants who, on the day of the Mamamarathon, wish to enjoy a free ticket to and from Portimão via CP trains, must contact the AOA before 8 October, calling 289 807 531.
Registration for the 12th Mamamarathon costs €5 for an adult and €3 for a child and can be made until October 13th at the AOA headquarters in Faro, as well as at the Continente Shopping Center in Portimão, at the Market on Av. S. João de Deus, at the Hospital Center of Barlavento Algarvio, at the old Lota building or at the event location on the 14th, from 08:00 am to 09:45 am, to add in this case one euro at the initial value.
