The president of the PS Algarve today expressed his concern at the successive postponement of the construction of the new Central Hospital of the Algarve, having considered it unacceptable that, in the context of negotiations with the 'troika', the Government did not consider the creation of this important health facility. in the region.

“This is an essential infrastructure for the consolidation of the regional strategy of affirming the Algarve as a safe and healthy region”, emphasizes António Eusébio, saying that he is “surprised” by the Executive's lack of intention to move forward with the new Hospital do Algarve, despite having recognized that its creation is a priority, along with the Hospital de Todos os Santos, in Lisbon, which has now been approved.

Recalling that, last November, and following the example of what he had already said in August 2011, the Minister of Health assured that the Government is reassessing the financial framework to find funds to implement this health equipment in the Algarve, the regional leader The PS affirms that it cannot find any justification for this lack of diligence on the part of the Executive, with regard to the construction of the Algarve hospital.

"The PSD-CDS/PP coalition government assumed a commitment to the Algarve and to the Algarveans that it is not fulfilling, frustrating expectations, making it impossible to respond to the needs of residents and visitors and not defending the interests of the region", considers the president of the PS Federation.

Without questioning the construction of the Hospital de Todos os Santos, the socialist leader emphasizes the importance of the new Hospital Central do Algarve for the region, namely in promoting the accessibility and quality of the provision of differentiated healthcare, taking into account that its construction will to serve an estimated population of around 800 inhabitants, that is, twice the Algarve population due to the seasonal influx of tourists.

The PS Algarve therefore decided to question the Government regarding the forecast of a date for the construction of the new Hospital do Algarve, as well as the methodology for identifying funding that is being developed with a view to speedy completion, reaffirming the regional urgency of the aforementioned equipment of health.

The Party recalls that, in October 2011, and after the PS Government made a clear commitment to the region, the tender process for the new Hospital do Algarve was in the BAFO presentation stage (Best and Final Offer), after having been open for tender for the Public-Private Partnership, with a view to its construction and maintenance, and having gone through the candidate selection phase.
