The nooks and crannies of Cacela Velha are once again filled with poetry, on the next 16th of September, with another edition of the cycle «Poesia na Rua».

The event takes as its starting point the poetic heritage of Ibn Darraj al-Qastalli, born in Cacela, where he was born in 958, as well as other poets who wrote about Cacela Velha or lived here, as in the cases of Abû al- 'Abdarî, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Eugénio de Andrade, Teresa Rita Lopes or Adolfo C. Gago.

In this year's edition, in addition to poetry sessions, poem drying racks, debates and anthology presentations, there will be a street market with books and local products.

“Poetry in the street” will thus be a great cultural moment around words written or spoken aloud, but also one of animation, celebration and sharing.

But because this is intended to be a party around words, there will still be multiple works to read and consult in front of the magnificent natural setting of Cacela Velha, as well as a «poetry clothesline» where each visitor will be invited to leave their poem or take it. I can get the one I like the most.

A varied program for all ages

The program starts at 10:00 am, with activities for the younger ones, a poem hunt, a creative workshop and story time. In the afternoon, the program starts at 15:30 pm to talk about Almada Negreiros.

In the 2012 edition, «Poesia na Rua» will dedicate space to the presentation of two works.

At 16 pm, the anthology «Algarve: 00 poets south of the 12st century» will be presented (Books Capital/Linguagem de Cálculo, 2012), a time that will also be reserved for reading poems and for dialoguing with authors. At 16:45 pm, the collection «Poetas do Guadiana» will be highlighted.

At 17:15 pm, there will be a tribute to António Ramos Rosa, where they will remember and recite some texts by the poet from Faro. The session is attended by Gisela Ramos Rosa and Manuel Madeira and an exhibition of the author's drawings.

Discussions around the books continue at 18 pm, with the debate table «Poetry doesn't make sense».

At the end of the afternoon, at 18:45 pm, participants will be invited to take a poetic tour in Cacela Velha and Ria Formosa, led by António Baeta, which will have the poetic heritage of al-Andaluz as a backdrop.

When night falls, everyone is invited to listen and participate in the celebration of the «little church ritual», where poems will be heard to the beat of the Vila Real de Santo António Philharmonic Band.

For the third consecutive year, «Poetry in the Street» will be a great cultural moment around words written or spoken aloud, paying homage, once again, to the town of Cacela Velha, a place where all the streets have place-names dedicated to authors who wrote about Cacela or lived there.
